Where Cardboard Boxes Came From

Everything in this world has its beginning and this is also true with cardboard boxes. Have you ever wondered where they came from? Since when did these boxes exist? Who invented them? Well, if you're that curious, read on and you will find out.

Many years ago, in the 1600s, the Chinese people invented the cardboard boxes. However, it was only in 1817 when the very first cardboard box was introduced commercially and it was not the Chinese who did this but the English people.

That time, you can see men's hats lined with corrugated board or otherwise called pleated paper. And by the 1870s, the shipment of glassware already made use of corrugated cardboard that serves as a cushion. After that, the cardboard was made stronger.

In 1879, Robert Gain was able to produce a cardboard box that was truly efficient. One feature of this cardboard box is that you can keep it flat and then if you need to use the box, you can fold them for easy use. Long after this, the Americans produced the efficient box, and many refinements took place. This enabled the creation of cardboard boxes that were used as substitutes to space-consuming, labor-intensive, and heavy crates and wooden boxes.

At present, many people are using cardboard boxes in their everyday lives. They appreciate the efficiency of modern boxes that are light, strong, recyclable, and inexpensive.

Even little children are using cardboard boxes. You can see how creative they are because they can turn the boxes into playthings. At a very young age, they already know how to recycle the boxes and put them to good use rather then throwing the boxes away. And because of the boxes' light weight and strong features, children do enjoy creative play with them.

For instance, cardboard boxes used for keeping the shoes can be used as ideal scene settings and dioramas. Some children also make use of small unused boxes as an alternative dollhouse or furniture. You can even see some children playing with car boxes; the children simply draws wheels on the box's side. New refrigerators, televisions, stoves, and washers are delivered inside boxes and children really love to use the boxes after the appliances are taken out. You can see them turning the boxes into houses or forts, submarines, spaceships, caves, or castles. As parents, you will be very pleased to see your children making use of their imagination and creativity.

Thanks to the Chinese, a lot of people today enjoy the benefits of using these boxes. Even if they were not the first ones to introduce the commercial box, people of today still owe the creation of boxes to the Chinese.

If you have plans of using the boxes for storage purposes, then you will not find it hard to purchase the boxes because these things are widely available. Most of the local stores in your area definitely sell the boxes. The boxes are also inexpensive so you don't have to worry about the price.

Cardboard boxes have gone a long way since the 1600s. Because of the new technology that the world has now, people can still expect the creation of commercial boxes that are more durable and dependable. Learn how to use the boxes wisely and don't just throw them away after use. Perhaps you can still use the boxes for other purposes.
